Atlantic City Electric – Peermont Substation Project

6/2/16 – Municipal Update

Atlantic City Electric crews continue to make progress in completing the Peermont Substation Project that will modernize and harden the electric system.  This work is necessary to continue to ensure safe and reliable electric service to residents in Avalon, Stone Harbor and the surrounding area and to help minimize outages during severe weather events.

Crews returned to 95th Street in Stone Harbor this week to restore and repair areas that have been impacted by construction.  This work will continue until the restoration efforts are complete.

A portion of the Horizontal Directional Drilling work on 95th Street in Stone Harbor has been completed. By the end of next week, crews will work seven days a week to complete the next step that requires pulling a cable under the Great Channel from Hallman Road in Middle Township to 95th Street in Stone Harbor, as well as pulling cable along 95th Street, past 3rd Avenue to the new riser structure.

This cable will connect the second source from the mainland to our new substation in Avalon.  The work to pull the cable will take approximately two weeks. Once the cable pull is complete, the majority of equipment will be removed and there will be minimal construction impact in this area moving forward.

After the cable is successfully pulled, crews will begin the process of splicing the cable together at the manhole located on 95th Street along with the installation of terminations and connection to the overhead circuit at the new riser structure just past 3rd Avenue.  This process is slated to begin the last week of June and barring any unforeseen circumstances, will take approximately three days to complete. Crews will work 24 hours daily and 95th Street will remain open for local traffic during that time.

It’s anticipated that our crews will complete all work on 95th Street in Stone Harbor by the end of June.

We thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding as we work to complete the final stages of this reliability improvement project.
