To follow is a statement received from Atlantic City Electric on April 14th, 2016 regarding outages experienced this past week:

We are continuing construction for the Peermont Substation rebuild. Our electric system is at an increased exposure to potential outages due to the continual changes in system configuration and the sensitivity of equipment on our distribution lines. These procedures were implemented for the safety of our workers during construction activities. In addition, all of 7 Mile Island is currently being serviced by two substations in Middle Township while construction of the Peermont Substation in Avalon and associated transmission lines are finalized.

The new Peermont Substation and associated transmission lines are not yet in service. The target date for the completion of the entire project is mid-May.
The rebuild of the Peermont Substation from 23kV/12kV to 69kV/12kV is required to reliably serve customers during the summer of 2016 and well into the future for our customers in Stone Harbor, Avalon and the surrounding area.

We thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding as we work to finalize this reliability enhancement project.

Power outages in general are caused by a variety of factors including equipment failure, animal contact, utility pole collisions and weather-related outages.
