The Stone Harbor Police Department is advising residents of a recent telephone scam which has been occurring in the Stone Harbor and Avalon area.
Local residents have been receiving phone calls from an unknown subject identifying himself/herself as a representative of the Internal Revenue Service. The “IRS” representative will then advise the resident of discrepancies in relation to their tax information. On at least one occasion the “IRS” representative told the resident local police have been contacted with respect to these tax discrepancies and that a warrant for the residents’ arrest has been issued. The call originated from (415)234-9585.
Residents are advised not to provide any of their personal information over the phone and to contact the Stone Harbor Police Department at 609-368-2111 upon receiving similar calls.
