STONE HARBOR — The 96th Street Bridge, which was shut down last week due to a large crack, will be closed for two more weeks, Cape May County Engineer Dale Foster said Friday.

Foster said earlier this week that he hoped the bridge would reopen to traffic next week, but that tentative timeline has been pushed back a week.

“I was hoping we’d be able to move a little quicker,” he added.

An county electrical crew discovered a “large vertical crack” in one of the bridge’s main girders last Friday, Foster said. It’s been closed since then.

Foster said assessments last weekend revealed that one of the two movable spans on the bridge shifted downward as a result of the crack.
