Sustainable Jersey representatives announced October 9th, 2017 that Stone Harbor has met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey certification. Stone Harbor is one of 72 towns that have attained certification in 2017 and was honored at the Sustainable Jersey awards luncheon on Tuesday, November 14 in Atlantic City with Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour accepting the award.
“The Stone Harbor Go Green Committee under the guidance of Council President Karen Lane worked diligently to achieve the Bronze Certification in 2017” said Stone Harbor Mayor Judy Davies-Dunhour. “The Mayor and Council recognize the need for sustainable initiatives to be implemented in order for our town to remain the “Seashore at its Best” and moving forward will continue to fully support Go Green.”
To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Stone Harbor submitted documentation to show it had completed a balance of the required sustainability actions, meeting a minimum of 150 action points. Stone Harbor achieved 270 points and successfully completed 5 of the 12 priority actions required. The Borough of Stone Harbor Green Team’s goal is to achieve Silver Certification (350 Points) before the final round of review is completed in December 2017.
“Sustainable Jersey is proud of the 72 New Jersey towns that achieved certification this year,” said Randy Solomon, director of Sustainable Jersey. “The 208 Sustainable Jersey certified towns demonstrate leadership and are a testament to how much we can accomplish toward the long-term goal of a sustainable New Jersey.” Certified towns excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency and health and wellness, reducing waste, sustaining local economies, protecting natural resources and advancing the arts. Collectively, the 445 participating Sustainable Jersey towns are a powerful force in New Jersey.
The Borough of Stone Harbor formed its own “Green Team” in 2012. The Go Green team main initiative, when first established, was to educate homeowners and visitors on the importance of water conservation. As the Borough of Stone Harbor moved forward with Sustainable Jersey Certification the Go Green Committee expanded our goals to include Recycling, Preservation of Natural Habitats, Energy Conservation, Energy Audits, Fleet Inventory audits and many more earth friendly initiatives.
