Jersey Shore Pops Centennial Concert Postponed to Wednesday, Aug. 13

UPDATE: Due to the scheduled forecast of rain on Tuesday, Stone Harbor’s Centennial celebration, which includes a free performance by Linda Gentille and the Jersey Shore Pops, has been postponed until Aug. 13 at 7:00 p.m. This will be the last concert in the series for the season. Thank you!

The world-renowned Jersey Shore Pops Orchestra will be performing Aug. 13 in their last concert in a series which was part of the Borough’s Centennial celebration. The outdoor concert, beginning at 7:00 PM will feature Dan Marro.

Dan Marro has established himself in the entertainment field as a modern day renaissance man. His list of credentials is impressive: singer-songwriter, published poet, producer, audio engineer, director, impersonator, performer, filmmaker and radio talk show host.

Dan is no stranger to performing, having been in the music business for over 20 years. As a musician, he has had the honor of opening for many iconic acts, such as Steppenwolf, Rick Derringer, The Guess Who, The Chiffons, Gloria Gaynor, K.C. And The Sunshine Band, The Shirlelles, and The Drifters.

His influences are wide and vast. From Do-Wop and Motown, to the British Invasion bands of the 60’s, and the Hard Rock bands of the 70’s and 80’s.

The conductor of the orchestra, Linda Gentille comments, “Dan is a fabulous entertainer and had his own Bruce Springsteen show which was awesome. He will include some of the biggest hits from the 70’s including Born in the USA which is one of my favorites. The audiences will love his energy, music and enthusiasm.”

The Jersey Shore pops is led by conductor and pianist Linda Gentille. The orchestra is the newest orchestra in the state and is gaining in popularity each season. One of the attractions of the orchestra is the popularity of the music director and conductor Gentille. The series of 4 concerts which began in July have been a big hit with Stone Harbor audiences. The idea to bring in The Jersey Shore Pops was a decision made by The Centennial Committee and Borough Council.

“We are absolutely thrilled to include the Jersey Shore Pops Orchestra during our centennial celebration”, said Stone Harbor Mayor Suzanne Walters. “The Pops will bring a wide variety of music to the Borough that will span all generations and musical tastes as we celebrate 100 years of being a premiere seashore destination along the East Coast”.

The concert will be held at a specially constructed stage at the Water Tower. There will be VIP seating on a first come first serve basis beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a special wine and beer station to enjoy before and during the concert. If the VIP seating is taken, guests may bring a blanket or a beach chair to enjoy the performances which will be free to the public. This is a perfect outdoor even which the whole family can enjoy. There will be a dancing area set up for the audiences who like to kick up their heels and enjoy the music.

The Jersey Shore Pops Orchestra is a professional orchestra that performs classical and popular music concerts with international guest artists. The Pops educates adults, young people, and special populations throughout southern New Jersey in the beauty and power of classical music. It is comprised of 25 New Jersey-based professional musicians. The Pops is the orchestra-in-residence at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center. They will have one last concert in their successful season on Aug. 23 at the PAC. The final show will be called Great Balls Of Fire starring the conductor and pianist Linda Gentille.

New 83rd Street Fishing Pier Dedication

New Fishing Pier Dedication

The Borough of Stone Harbor officially opened the new 83rd Street Fishing Pier with Mayor Suzanne Walters casting a fishing line into the water.  The new pier offers plenty of room for fishing and crabbing, benches, fish cleaning station, handicap accessibility and beautiful views overlooking the back bay.   The Wetlands Institute provided monofilament recycling stations at the pier and was on hand for the dedication with a touch tank which included starfish and various crabs.  Children participating in the fishing/crabbing camp offered by the Stone Harbor Recreation Department were invited and enjoyed the interaction with the sea creatures!

Another great project completed by the Stone Harbor Public Works Department!
