Who we are…

Our congregation is part of the (ELCA) Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Since our establishment in 1914, we have shared the love of God for all people through Word and Sacrament, education and service to our community. We unite with the other congregations of Seven Mile Island and in Cape May County and welcome all – residents, summer residents, and visitors – who wish to participate with us.

Experience the JOY that is St. Mary’s
Through Scripture and Sacrament, preaching and prayer, music, and movement, we seek to engage heart, body, and mind in an experience of worship in which we offer the whole of our being to God. We pray you will be inspired and transformed, strengthened, and encouraged for the work of discipleship that awaits us in our daily lives. St. Mary’s is a Eucharistic community, meaning that our primary act of worship is the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Eucharistic worship is communal worship – a shared experience in which we seek to be drawn closer to each other as we are drawn closer to God.

Come as you are!
We WELCOME ALL people, No exceptions!

Outreach
We serve our brothers and sisters in Christ’s name. We extend that service outside our church community to our neighbors in need through two outreach ministries.

The Branches
St. Mary’s founded The Branches Center in Rio Grande in 2007. The Center has grown substantially since then and serves the poor, homeless and lonely of Cape May County assisting them to find the means to advance their lives by connecting them to resources and services. The Center offers a safe place for friendship and socialization, and simple comfort meals six days per week. In 2019 St. Mary’s created a 501(c)(3) non-profit to enable and encourage support for and involvement with The Branches to expand beyond our church and into the greater Cape May County religious and charitable community. The success of this decision has enabled The Branches to far surpass our church’s original vision.

St. Mary’s This ‘n That Thrift Shop provides assistance in vital ministry and mission by offering quality clothing and household goods at affordable prices to the community, along with jobs and work experience to those in need. Proceeds help to support The Branches and other
ministries and outreach of St. Mary’s.
