Weekly Beach Fill Project Update:

The Beach Fill Project, has experienced some delays but the contractor, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD) has started to pump sand onto Stone Harbor beaches.

GLDD began pumping sand at 87th street shortly after midnight on May 5th. However, their operations were temporarily halted due to a mechanical issue with the booster pump. After addressing the mechanical issue, GLDD resumed sand pumping at 3:30 pm on June 6th. As of 9:00 am today, June 7th, approximately 13,000 cubic yards of sand have been placed on the beach.

Based on the current pace of work and the information provided, the UN-OFFICIAL estimated completion for the Beach Fill Project is expected to be in mid to late July.

Looking ahead, GLDD aims to complete beach fill operations in the north-end beach areas, specifically from 87th street to 78th street, by the end of this week, potentially on Friday or Saturday. Once complete, GLDD will turn around and start beach fill operations at 89th street, proceeding southwards.
