logo

The Borough of Stone Harbor Engineer has contacted the local Utility Companies and advised of the proposed Utility & Road Construction Project to improve the following streets:

  • Sunset Drive – Berkley Road to 99th
  • Corinthian Drive – Berkley Road to 99th Street
  • Berkley Road- Sunset Drive to Corinthian Drive
  • Charles Street – Sunset Drive to Corinthian Drive

Please be advised enough time must be provided to the Utility Companies to make repairs and/or upgrades, if necessary.  No Construction will begin until the Spring of 2016.

Homeowners should take this time to review their current utility services and determine if any upgrades are needed and have them scheduled.   Once construction is complete the roadways will have a 5 year moratorium in place and cannot be opened for any reason.

Updates on the progress of this project will be provided when available.

Coastal Flood Warning for Stone Harbor Tuesday, December 9th

The National Weather Service has posted a Coastal Flood Warning for our community for Tuesday morning, December 9th. Minor to moderate coastal flooding is expected during high tide on Tuesday morning. A coastal storm will make its way along the New Jersey coastline on Tuesday and will bring some rain, windy conditions, and coastal flooding to our community. The heaviest rain is expected to occur on Tuesday morning with strong 40mph wind gusts. Please take this opportunity to secure any objects that are subject to strong gusty winds. Never attempt to drive on any flooded street, or through any flooded intersection. If you have any emergency, please dial 911.nws-special-weather-statement

High tide will occur at the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge between Avalon and Sea Isle City at 9:31am on Tuesday and again at 10:03pm.

If you live on a street that typically experiences high water during flooding events, consider moving your vehicle out of the street to higher ground. Please continue to monitor this weather forecast and the risk of coastal flooding through traditional media outlets.

Here is the text of the Coastal Flood Warning as posted by the National Weather Service:

Coastal Flood Warning in effect from 7 am to 1 PM EST
Tuesday…

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a coastal
Flood Warning… which is in effect from 7 am to 1 PM EST Tuesday.
The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.

* Location… coastal areas of New Jersey and Delaware.

* Coastal flooding… minor flooding is anticipated around high
tide this evening. Moderate coastal flooding is expected during
the Tuesday morning high tide. Heavy rain and rough surf at the
time of high tide will enhance to flooding problem.

* At Atlantic City… New Jersey… high tide this evening will
occur at 846 PM with a forecast tide level near 6.2 feet above
mean lower low water. The high tide Tuesday morning will occur
at 857 am with a forecast tide level of near 7.2 feet above mean
lower low water.

* At Cape May… New Jersey (oceanfront)… high tide this evening
will occur at 920 PM with a forecast tide level near 6.8 feet
above mean lower low water. The high tide Tuesday morning will
occur at 931 am with a forecast tide level of 7.5 to 8.0 feet
above mean lower low water.

* High tide on the back bays… along the Delaware and Raritan
bays occurs later than the high tide on the oceanfront.

* Impacts… expect roadways prone to minor tidal flooding to
flood this evening. Expect Road closures during the times of
high tide Tuesday morning when higher water levels are
expected. In addition wind driven heavy rains and wave action
will exacerbate the potential for beach erosion Tuesday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A coastal Flood Warning indicates that moderate or major tidal
flooding is imminent or occurring. Be prepared for rising water
levels and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
Follow the recommendations of local emergency management
officials.

Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be
deeper than you think. You will be putting yourself in danger and
your vehicle may be damaged… leading to costly repairs.
